Who are Mark and Katie? Well, since you’re at our website, I would guess that you have at least met one of us. If not, hello! Okay, now that introductions are complete, we can break down the true essence of Mark and Katie. We’ll begin with the couple:

Mark and Katie are two awesome people who met a few years ago at the freshman/transfer orientation at their university. They were required to participate in an entertaining show-type event with the rest of their team. However, they are not show-type people, so they got put in the background group. Which was fine with them. Katie was in outgoing friend making mode, talking to a girl she met the day before (who eventually became her sister from another mister), telling hilarious jokes and offering humorous sarcastic remarks. Mark was eavesdropping happened to overhear, and told Katie, “I like you; you’re funny!”, a line that did not fail to impress Katie. They talked and became friends, and eventually began dating. Two years and many awesome adventures, trips across the country (and the world), interesting discussions and weird situations later, Mark asked Katie to marry him. She said yes, and now we’re getting married!

To break it down further, here is some background on us individually:

Mark: A computer science major/ math minor, Mark is the logical one. He has great ideas that he brings to fruition with the help of his trusty computers, and sometimes Katie. But only when the ideas aren’t technology based. He comes from Illinois, which is pretty cool. He likes Abe Lincoln, and history in general. He doesn’t really like football, but is in to soccer. In fact, he has played for his high school team, and even took up a required kinesiology credit by playing in a class in college. He doesn’t have a favorite color, but does appreciate all the trouble Katie goes through to try and make things match and pick out wedding colors. He prefers (demands) his burgers plain and dry. Apple pie and its cousins apple crisp and apple pizza are his favorite desserts. He likes Star Trek a lot, and has tricked Katie into liking it sometimes, but not all the time, and only the original series/movies, plus the new movie. His favorite animal is the penguin, but he is also partial to pandas and firefoxes.

Katie: An English major/ political science minor, Katie is the emotional one. She sees shades of gray where Mark sees black and white. She is passionate about many things, especially helping immigrants and refugees, literacy, ending human trafficking and helping people in general. She usually tries (successfully) to get Mark to help her when she comes up with new schemes, and even if he is a little less interested than she is in experiencing new cultures, he does his best to jump in and help. Katie is a native Texan, which she is proud of, but not in a weird way. She does say things like y’all and fixin’ to, and many other interesting Texan phrases that slip out from time to time, but it doesn’t bother her, because she knows that no matter how hard she tries, she won’t be able to resist her Texaness. Not that she’d try. Katie loves reading and writing, and even has her own blog! She likes the Texas Rangers, the Olympics and the World Cup. If she could chose one food to eat for the rest of her life, it would be pizza. Also, dessert is her favorite food group. Her favorite animal is the giraffe, and her favorite weird animal is the narwhal.

It is also worth noting that both Mark and Katie are Christians who love getting involved with their church. They both have a heart for service, and although they are passionate about different things, they work together to bring glory to God.
